Friday, October 2, 2020 Weekly Administrative Update

Dear BFA Community:

These continue to be difficult times, certainly for many of our seniors. In order to hear directly from our most impacted group, this week several of us met with both cohorts of seniors at the Collins-Perley Complex. As to be expected, there were a few who were willing to speak on their ideas, but not only is it difficult to speak in front of so many, this is the first time in seven months that students have been allowed to gather together under one roof. After both senior class meetings, many students sought me out or asked to speak with me as they went into their classes. To no surprise, they expressed a host of positive, creative, and implementable ideas. Next week we will know more but I am excited, as were the seniors, with getting their ideas going.

This week our student-athletes were able to compete and, I speak personally here, it really felt great to see that happen. Tonight our varsity football is home under the lights and after watching the JV team play an aggressively energetic 7 on 7 game where all students were involved, I am now a fan of the sport. All our other teams had their opening meets or matches this week, with more contests starting this weekend. As those in attendance at the girl's soccer game will attest, some tough weather is always to be expected this time of year. I liked seeing how our girls continued to tough it out despite the cold driving rain.

Our student-led assembly is starting to be put together, as is our all-important Veteran's Day Assembly. Details will be had soon and I look forward to sharing those with everyone. For those like me that love the theater, rehearsals have been underway and we continue to examine creative ways to get the play viewed by the greater community.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Brett Blanchard

Principal

Senior Meetings:
Senior Meetings were held on September 29th and October 2nd for the blue and green groups and was filmed and sent to remote students. Senior Class Administrator Heather Fitzgibbons opened the meeting. Our Balfour Representative, Paul Trono, and Ms. Callan, graduation coordinator, presented information on how to order caps and gowns on-line as well as completing the google form for how seniors want their names printed on their diplomas. Mr. Blanchard then addressed the seniors with an open discussion on opportunities throughout their upcoming year and asked seniors to provide him with their ideas and suggestions.
