Global Citizenship Class Visits
Good afternoon BFA/NCTC Community,
I have attached some pictures from my class' most recent Global Citizenship project in which students studied the UN Sustainable Development Goals and completed a community service project to actively work towards achieving these goals.
Over the month of December and into January, my students as well as Darrin Dezotelle's students engaged in numerous presentations from community members whose job plays a role in working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. We heard from representatives from the Lake Champlain Committee, the Westford Foodshelf, Upward Bound, Spectrum Youth, Efficiency Vermont, and more. Students proposed different projects that they could participate in that would use their learning to make meaningful changes in their communities. My students voted on a project that we would complete as a class. Darrin Dezotelle's students organized and completed their own individual projects. In one of my classes, we helped fight climate change and develop a more sustainable community by cleaning up trash around school property. Another class designed and developed climate change awareness posters to send to Tess Bashaw's 6th-grade class which they will be using to learn more about climate change. My third class volunteered and restocked the Northwest Family Foods shelves to prepare them for community members the following day to help combat hunger in our community.
Seeing students engaging with professionals who help to create a more sustainable world as well as engaging in work themselves has been a great way to see the impact of taking what we learn in the classroom and using it in the community.

Students in Global Citizenship classes are learning about the UN Sustainable Development Goals and our Engagement Coordinator, Jamie Bristol, has organized several speakers from local organizations to help them see what the goals look like in action! We had 2 speakers last week. Students learned about Spectrum Youth Services and Efficiency Vermont. Although each speaker covered very different content, the big reminder was that it takes a village to see big change happen...The more we see how interconnected we are as a community, the more we sustain and thrive!

As Semester 1 wraps up, we wanted to send out a reminder on our missed work and retake policy as stated within the 2022-2023 BFA Playbook:
Reminder PLPs
Students have been working on their Personal Learning Plan assignments throughout the semester. Each third week of the month, advisory and enrichment time has been dedicated to the PLP task of the month. Students have been given reminders and support to complete the tasks on the timeline.
Semester one PLP requirements are due on January 20th. PLPs are a graduation requirement and will be reflected on the student's report card and transcript. If your student needs support, they should see their advisor or Mr. Mahabir.
