Friday, November 22, 2024, Weekly Administrative Update

Message from Principal Rico

Dear Families,

As we prepare to take time off from school for the Thanksgiving break (November 25 - November 29, 2024), we want to bring attention to how much we appreciate everyone who has developed a routine for making school and attendance a priority. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn and connect with peers and their teachers.

Bellows Free Academy connects attendance to the world of work and takes it very seriously. We have created an attendance team to help improve student attendance and work towards the MRUSD goal of removing barriers to student attendance. If your child has a difficult time arriving to school on time and/or attending school, here are things that have proven helpful for families to try:

  • Develop a positive daily morning routine

  • Consistent sleep routines

  • Healthy eating, and

  • Limited screen time.

If your family or your child is in need of support, please reach out to their school counselor.

We want to thank our students and their families who do their best to attend school every day, even when it is difficult. Our faculty and staff work hard each day to make school a welcoming learning environment where students can thrive. Your partnership with us is key to your child’s success. We look forward to seeing you again when school resumes at 8:10am on Monday, December 2, 2024. Wishing all families an enjoyable, restful, and safe Thanksgiving break.

Sincerely,

Polly Rico, Principal

Tech Discovery Day

The Franklin County Industrial Development Corporation posted the following:
"On November 14th, FCIDC's Workforce Development Committee and BFA Guidance Counselor Stephanie Hodgeman organized an incredibly successful Tech Day at Collins-Perley. There they hosted a dozen Franklin County Businesses that offered hands-on demonstrations and projects to 80 of Maple Run Unified School District's eighth graders. This event introduced these middle school students to some of the many tech careers available here in Franklin County- both with and without college degrees. The success of this event ensured similar events in Franklin County's future. Special thank you to all who participated and helped facilitate Tech Day '24."

Franklin county students explore careers with border patrol and homeland security

On November 20th, students from Missisquoi Valley Union (MVU), Bellows Free Academy (BFA) St. Albans, and Richford High School had the unique opportunity to tour the Swanton Sector Border Patrol station.

The visit provided an inside look at the critical mission of the U.S. Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Students gained firsthand insights into the diverse career paths within these agencies, including roles in law enforcement, digital forensics, dispatch, search/rescue and federal service.

This event is part of a monthly initiative organized by the Franklin County Industrial Development Corporation (FCIDC), which brings together students from all five Franklin County high schools to explore local career opportunities.

A special thanks to Customs and Homeland Security, Border Patrol and FCIDC for fostering connections between students and potential career paths, helping to build a brighter future for our community!
