Bellows Free Academy hosted auditions for the Vermont Music Educators (VMEA) District 1 music festival on Dec 4, 2024. 26 choral and instrumental students from BFA successfully auditioned for the district chorus, band, and wind ensembles.

BFA students, Chloe Weinstein (‘25) and Madeleine Messier (‘27) competed and won two of the three district scholarships awarded by the VMEA. Chloe performed two pieces for voice (alto), “A Quiet Thing” from Flora, the Red Menace, and “How Are Things in Glocca Morra” from Finian’s Rainbow.

Madeleine played violin and performed the virtuoso piece, “Chaconne in G Minor,” by Tomaso Vitali. This is the second year in a row that Madeleine has won a district scholarship. Both students will perform their respective pieces at the Northwest District Concert Festival on February 7, 2025, at Enosburgh Falls High School.

Chloe and Madeleine were accompanied by pianist Chris Leduc, who serves as the accompanist for the BFA Music Department. VMEA district scholarship awards typically range from $500-$750 to each student yearly to further their music education.

That's a wrap on BFA's Beauty and the Beast!

Comments received . . . .
"What an amazing performance of Beauty and the Beast at BFA Theater tonight! Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie and they truly did an outstanding job! The performers, the musicians, the backstage cast, the sets, the costumes, EVERYTHING was amazing!"

"The Kids are Alright. What a lovely performance watching Beauty and the Beast at BFA tonight. A packed house enjoyed a quality show. In a time when grown ups are at such unease it sure was nice to watch our kids put on such an impressive performance. Bravo to everyone who made this production happen. It is so fun watching our children accomplish so much over the years. Everyone should be very proud!"

"Congratulations to everyone involved in Beauty and the Beast at BFA! Wow! Singers. actors, dancers, juggler, musicians, stage crew, lighting crew, set design!! An amazing job by everyone! Absolutely blown away by the sets and placement of the orchestra!"👏👏👏

Congratulations

Lilith johnson!

Lilith found a manufacturing apprenticeship with Husky Technologies and has thrived while learning CNC machining and many other skills. Her advice to other young women?
"Go for it! Take a chance! I was nervous at first, especially when I learned I was the only girl in my apprentice class, but everything has worked out. Don’t be afraid to be the only girl on the team or in your field."
Keep up the great work, Lilith! You're helping build Vermont's future.
Thanks to VMEC - Vermont Manufacturing Extension Center for sharing Lilith's story.
