Pink the Rink Hockey Event Feb 3rd:
It was an amazing Saturday night at Collins Perley Sports and Fitness Center at the annual Pink the Rink event. All of the money raised tonight from the doubleheader boys’ and girls’ games against Spaulding goes back into our local community to help with cancer-related causes. There was a raffle table, bake sale, clothing table, Chuck the puck, 50/50 raffle, and gate sales to add to the total amount. Both teams played well with the Comets winning 7-1 and Bobwhites 3-0.

Local Scholarship Event:
On February 7th, more than 80 seniors gathered with their school counselors, Jaime Bristol and Peter Jones in the BFA library for the Local Scholarship Event. Students diligently worked on starting their scholarship applications and gained a better understanding of how to help finance their college journey through local scholarships. A special acknowledgment goes to Amy Tuner and Martina Newell for all of the behind-the-scenes work that they do coordinating with local scholarship committees on behalf of BFA seniors.  All local scholarship information is easily accessible on the BFA Guidance website: https://www.maplerun.org/o/bfa/page/scholarships

Voices Against Violence:
We invited Voices Against Violence to set up an informational table during the lunch block every Tuesday for the month of February.  They engaged students in conversations about what safe, healthy, and respectful relationships look like...check out the "interactive wall", created by our BFA students, while they were here this week!

Art Movie and Discussion at the Welden Theatre:

Intro:
Preston Fuller is a member of the City’s Belonging, Equity & Inclusion Committee and he is leading a new initiative called “Movies that Matter,” which will show free movies at the Welden to spur community discussion. The first movie is a documentary called “Wasteland,” which is about a community art project involving the disadvantaged community at the world’s largest landfill near Rio de Janeiro.

Free to the public on Tuesday, February 13th at 6pm at the Welden.

The idea behind "Movies That Matter" is to quarterly show a movie or documentary that invites and engages our community members into a deeper conversation about issues, ideas and inspirations that are part of all our lives.

After the movie we will invite a panel of artists forward and for about thirty minutes talk about the film and the question, "Why is art important to our community?" "What Does Community Art Look Like?" or any other questions that arise.

The BEI Committee is collaborating with BFA Art Teacher, Dee Christie, and students Jess Southwick, Cooper O'Connell, and Madi Evans will be on the panel to discuss art in the community.

BFA Rotary Interact Fundraiser:

BFA Rotary Interact launched a Blueberry Bush plant sale. The bushes are proven growers and northern grown. Blueberry bushes should be planted in at least groups of two. We are trying to do sustainable and environmentally friendly fundraising. Plants ordered will be delivered in May with directions for planting.
