We have two letters for you today. The first letter is to students from Mrs. Kattam and the second letter is from Mr. Marlow.

This message went out to students today:

Dear students,

Is it safe to say that spring has sprung? 🌷 I’ll be happy to do some spring skiing this weekend, then I’ll be ready to put away the skis and take out the hiking boots! 🥾

Can you believe that you are nearly three-quarters of the way through the school year!? Your resilience, flexibility, and hard work have been astounding. These valuable skills will serve you well in life. Keep it up!

Good to Know:

Course Request information for next year will be given during Advisory on March 23rd for Blue students and March 25th for Green students. ALL students grades 9-11 will get lunch at 11:00 and go directly to Advisory for a course request Zoom call with the guidance department.

  • Seniors, please wait to get lunch until 11:30.

Q3, PLPs are due by the end of the day on Friday, April 2nd.

  • You are simply adding to the template you created at the start of the year. Not creating a new document. (Look in your Google Drive!)

  • Use enrichment and advisory time to complete your PLPs

  • You need to submit FOUR pieces of evidence (one for each class).

  • Be sure to share your PLP with your advisor.

  • If you are new to BFA and/or haven’t started a PLP for this year click here to learn how: PLPs

Quarter 4 starts April 5th.

  • S2 Progress Reports/Q3 Final Grades will be published on the portal on April 12th at 4 pm.

FTM: Be sure to sign up for Enrichment time on FlexTime Manager!

  • TIP: Plan ahead! Get into the habit of creating your schedule for the next day/week during Advisory.

  • Look for the training link from Mr. Atwood in your email.

You must attend your classes and complete your assignments on the in-person days and virtual days. Missing assignments result in 0's. If you are not completing assignments, there is not enough evidence to show proficiency; therefore, credit can not be awarded.

  • Monitor your own progress: If you are unsure of how to check your progress either on Google Classroom or on PowerSchool, be sure to reach out to your advisor so they can help you. It is important to keep up to date on your assignments and do your best!

  • Review the Student Handbook to familiarize yourself with school guidelines, including proficiency scoring, Redo and Retake Policy, and attendance expectations.

Go to the Spring Fling on April 14th for some GREEN and GOLD FUN!

Stay Engaged. Stay Focused. Do your Best!

Warmly,

Ms. Kattam

Hi Everyone,

I received this message recently from Eva Clark, BFA Class of 2013, who is now employed as the Engagement Manager at SOVT.

COVID 19 has certainly had an impact on the fundraising efforts of Special Olympics Vermont and she is reaching out to our BFA Community to help offset some of this negative impact.

If you see fit, your donation would be welcome and appreciated, no gift is too small!! Thanks for your time.

Regards,
Dan Marlow, Athletic Director

"Special Olympics Vermont (SOVT) serves over 2,000 athletes across Vermont! SOVT not only provides athletes opportunities to play sports but also opportunities to receive free health screenings in dentistry, physical therapy, optometry, audiology, and nutrition. Over 80 Vermont schools participate in the Special Olympics' Unified Champion Schools (USC) program, with BFA St. Albans being a nationally recognized UCS Banner School. Eva Clark, 2013 BFA alumnae, works as the Engagement Manager at SOVT. She says the Penguin Plunge is SOVT's largest fundraising event, providing about 40% of their operational budget! This year, SOVT is vulnerable because Covid has changed the way they must conduct the Plunge (it has been remote, with a very limited-capacity in-person Plunge scheduled for March 27th). If you’re interested in making a donation to SOVT's 2021 Penguin Plunge, you can do so here: https://give.specialolympicsvermont.org/fundraiser/3120113

In 2017, BFA St. Albans became one of the first schools in the US to be a nationally recognized Banner School for their outstanding efforts as a Unified Champion School (UCS). BFA received this award by demonstrating a commitment to inclusion by meeting 10 standards of excellence developed by a national panel of leaders from Special Olympics and the education community. A Special Olympics Unified Champion School has an inclusive school climate and exudes a sense of collaboration, engagement, and respect for all members of the student body and staff. The activities and opportunities provided through the program help to reduce bullying and exclusion, promote healthy activity and interactions, combat stereotypes and stigma, eliminate hurtful language in schools, and engage people in social activities that lead to personal growth.

Thank you for helping spread awareness and for considering a donation to SOVT!"

It wasn't the way the team wanted to end the season, but it was still another great season for the BFA St. Albans girls hockey team. A big thanks to Coach Cioffi and the team!!
