Spotlight on Seniors

Congratulations Sierra Yates!
NMC Health Professionals Scholarship

Five Franklin County high school seniors were recently awarded scholarships towards their health-related degree programs from the Martin H. Wennar, MD Health Education Fund.
One of the scholarships was presented to Sierra Yates from BFA, who will be studying physical therapy.  Each year, the Martin H. Wennar Health Professions Scholarships are presented to graduating high school seniors entering collegiate studies in a healthcare field. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and community service.

Senior DUI Event

This week (May 30th, and 31st), SAPD Lieutenant Paul Talley, BFA Mathematics teacher Jennifer Parent, and BFA's Engagement & Communication Coordinator Jamie Bristol partnered up to create a DUI Awareness Event for BFA's senior class during their advisory time period. LT Talley brought over golf carts and set up a driving course. Seniors took turns wearing impairment goggles while still attempting to drive through the course and abide by various rules...like a stop sign. The faculty at BFA, as well as the SAPD, value all of the students at BFA and hope that this event was fun and had a lasting impression on them!

Memorial Day Parade
On Monday, May 29th the BFA Band participated in the annual St. Albans Memorial Day Parade and ceremony in the park. Band members cut their vacations short to come back to school and honor those who served in our military and, especially, to honor those Veterans who have passed since last Memorial Day.

The band marched down Main Street playing John Phillip Sousa’s “Thunderer March” and then performed the “Dirge” and “Taps” as part of the ceremony. Bug Galuszka sang the Nation Anthem to end the service.

Music Festival at
Enosburg High School
The longest district festival in history wrapped up this past Friday night. We started in early February and were literally frozen out of the second day with -35 temps. I’m happy to say it was worth the wait! It surely wouldn’t have happened without AJ Banach and Camille Stevens’ outstanding hosting efforts at Enosburg High School. It was also a sad and proud moment to see my senior’s last music festival in the books too but a thrill to have him conducted by Chris Rivers.  Mr. Bushey.

Fine Arts Field Trip
Group photo at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. We did a collaborative trip with art students from MVU, sharing a bus, going to the museum, and then walking through OLD Montreal.  Dee Christie worked with MVU Art Teacher Lindsay Didio to create this amazing adventure for our students. BFA art teacher Karen Yandow chaperoned, as did all the art teachers from MVU.

Unified Theater
Unified Theater has a few more rehearsals before they present Wiley and the Hairy Man by Suzan Zeder. Their performance is Thursday, June 8th at 3:30 in the PAC!
