Weekly Update

Hello students and parents.

This week's update contains information on Scoring and Powerschool, Work Packet Distribution, Spring Sports, Construction, and Final Exams.

Scoring and PowerSchool
We have received a few questions about scoring and how PowerSchool is dealing with the input of new assignment scores.  To review, if a student has a course score of 2.5 or greater on their progress report and remains active in the class (hands in their assignments and does what is asked of them by their teacher) they either receive the score they had at progress report time or better if their overall course average has increased.  If students do not remain active in the course, they will receive an Incomplete.

Currently, in the parent portal, PowerSchool shows the student’s final grade across the entire course.  In June, the teacher will have to look at the grade at the progress report time and compare it to the final grade in PowerSchool.  If the score has lowered, then the teacher will have to override the final score with the higher score from Progress Reports.  If you need help gaining access to either PowerSchool or your child’s progress report, please look at the website on BFA’s Remote Learning Page.

If a student had a course score below 2.5 at the Progress Report time, their performance this spring can raise their grade above a  2.5, they will be awarded credit for the class, otherwise, it will be Incomplete.   If the course score at progress report time was lower than a 1.5 and has not participated in remote learning to bring up their score, a CD (Credit Denied) will appear on their transcript.

Work Packet Distribution
New work packets containing the next two weeks of work will be printed and mailed home on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Spring Sports
Vermont’s Principal Association has announced that 2020 Spring sports have been canceled for this year.  We are very saddened to hear this news, but understand it is the best decision to keep everyone safe.  If the Stay at Home Order is lifted on May 15th, the VPA felt there was not enough time to have a very short spring season.

Construction
Construction has restarted as of April 27th. A great deal of work is happening between the two buildings and starting the sprinkle work in the gymnasium.

Final Exams
There will not be a final exam assessment schedule in June or final exams.

Sincerely,

Bill Kimball
