Semester 1 Assessment Week
January 8 - 12, 2024

Hello Students and Families,

This communication is to let you know that BFA will be having an Assessment Week.  This week is designed for students to take assessments which will demonstrate their learning from the semester.  As you can see in the schedule below,  students arrive at the normal time and are dismissed at 11:30 unless they need to attend Proficiency Recovery in the afternoon.  Proficiency Recovery is for students who are currently not passing the class with at least a 2 score.   Students who need to attend this time will be dismissed at 2:50.  Buses will be running at the 11:30 dismissal and the 2:50 dismissal. Teachers will be reaching out to students and families to notify if students are required to stay.   NCTC students have a slightly different schedule which is also indicated on the attachment.

If Seniors need Community Service hours, there are possible community service opportunities in the afternoon.

Please reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you.
Polly Rico, Principal

Powderpuff Donates to
Camp Ta-Kum-Ta!
On Wednesday morning, members from both the MVU and BFA Powder Puff Teams were lucky enough to go visit the KOOL 105 radio station to be able to donate money to the annual Camp Ta-Kum-Ta-Thon. The prize raffle portion of this money goes to two scholarships in Jim Bashaw's name at both MVU and BFA, the Booster's Snack Bar proceeds for the night go to Camp Ta Kum Ta in Grace Emery's name, and the remaining major portion gets split between Camp Ta Kum Ta and the Jim Bashaw Cancer and Catastrophic Fund. This year a check for $14,036.58 was able to be donated to Camp Ta Kum Ta in Grace Emery's name. It is always "Kool to send a kid to camp".

Winter Dance Performance

The Winter Dance Performance was held on December 14th.
Here are some audience comments:

"Wonderful show!! It was a talented group of teens and I loved that all types of genres of dance were included. Letting them showcase their own choreography is awesome!"

"The dance show was the best BFA has ever done! It was better than even when I was a student at BFA!"

"You could tell everyone worked very hard and put in a lot of effort!"

Hope Happens Here

On December 14th, student Cooper O’Connell with Hope Happens Here made the following intercom announcement:  "Did you know that 1 in 5 students ages 13-18 will struggle with their mental health during high school. Please visit the Hope Happens Here table at lunch today for more information and resources to help support each other.  Enter our raffle, grab a bracelet or sticker, and help us start the conversation to break the negative stigma surrounding mental health issues within our community. Thank you, and remember, it is okay to not be okay."

Class of 2027 T-shirts

Class of 2027 shirts! Here are the class shirts for the Class of 2027, modeled by our very own Class Secretary Eli Hazen. We would really appreciate you considering buying one to support the class. This is a fundraiser and a way to bring together the class. It would be great to wear them on a particular Friday, at the assemblies, etc. They are $20 each. Student Council members will be coming around to the advisories on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. They are also in my room A314 for purchase, if you are afraid that your size will run out. Thanks so much! Mrs. Parent

Health News
COVID Update

Quick guide: COVID-19 isolation guidance for most people in the school community:

  • Isolate away from others as best as possible for 5 days.
    • Day 0 is the day the first symptoms started (or the day of a positive test if no symptoms)
  • On day 6 individuals should consider returning to school if:
    • They have been fever-free for 24hrs

AND

    • Other symptoms have improved or are improving

AND

    • They feel well enough to participate

If those criteria are not met, individuals should consider isolating for a few more days until they are ready to return to school.
